Comfest 2010 I retired as an organizer from Comfest in March 2010 because I was upset about the early closing times at the stages. After a couple weeks of suffering from feelings of guilt and regret, I discovered that my emotional decision made sense in a lot of ways for me and for Comfest. I probably wouldnʼt be writing this or any of the other articles Iʼve published at cringe.com if I hadnʼt left. I went into this yearʼs festival feeling relaxed and at peace with t ... [more]
Bonnaroo 2010 BONNAROO BOUND
I had been hearing about Bonnaroo for years but it had always been too close to Comfest for me to cut loose from my responsibilities and spend three or four days there. This year I was free and my very generous friend, Mary, offered me a ticket to help her keep an eye on her 18 year old son and his friend. So it seemed like it was meant to be and I went with it. We spent a lot of time preparing and planning, making use of all the helpful hints at the ... [more]
A Weekend at Hookahville & Rumba Cafe I had never been to Hookahville because I am, admittedly, not a big jam band fan and I suppose I allowed that bias to keep me from catching all the other types of music that have appeared there. My good buddy, Lee, who was in the opening act, offered me a VIP guest pass so I decided this would be the year to check it out. It is a nice short drive out to Thornville, Ohio, the site of Legend Valley (formerly known as Buckeye Lake Music Center); and it was perfect day to get ou ... [more]

What's Up This Weekend? - September 3, 2010 Edition
Topic: Shows Category: What's Up This Weekend?
Posted by: markfisher on Sep 03, 2010
Some people enjoy getting their thrills riding roller coasters. I'm planning on driving a woman in child-birth labor from Columbus to the hospital in Athens. Even scarier is the possibility that the call might come during the football game I'm going to tonight. There's already been a bit of seismic activity. Now, I've asked the little guy to hold on but you know how kids are. There are a couple of coincidences that worry me. My first son was born almost exactly 35 years ago during the Penn State-Ohio State game but I was able to listen to that one on the radio while I watched his little chest heaving up and down in the premie incubator. A little closer in time is the interesting fact that this boy's name-to-be, when googled, comes up as the Persian word for the God of Thunder and Ohio State happens to be playing the Marshall Thundering Herd tonight. It's going to be an exciting Labor Day weekend, that's for sure.
Friday: Hopa! Its Greek Festival time. Love the food. Kobo has Burlesque-a-Billy featuring the Sex Kittens, Apple Bottom Gang and Slick City Ramblers. Righteous Buck & the Skull Scorchers and The Resisters are at Ravari. Woodland's has Bucktown Kickback. The Floorwalkers are at Ruby's.
Saturday: Dick's has Fox 'n' Hounds. Rumba has Vug Arakas & the Stallions. Treehouse has Alert New London.
Monday: The Cowtown Round at Rumba features Joey Hebdo and Stephanie Nilles along with host, Jason Quicksall.
It's like thunder and lightning,
the way you love me is frightening.
You better knock, knock on wood, baby.
Lyrics by Eddie Floyd

Ill Fits
So far, compared to my regular digital camera, the iPhone sound is better, the videos are about the same and the pictures are usually worse on the iPhone. Hmm, guess that means I should use the iPhone for video and the digital camera for pictures. Anyway, I've added soem more videos and pictures to the Ear Shot Raw Galleries:

Maza Blaska
- 6 Penny Circle
- Ill Fits
- Maza Blaska
- The Receiver
- Urban Scrawl

Downhome Reunions
Topic: Shows Category: Articles
Posted by: cringe on Aug 31, 2010
A few days ago I got word that Beetkeepers is planning a reunion show in September or October. Yesterday I got word that Hank McCoy and the Deadringers (pictured) has 2 reunion shows scheduled for September 23 and September 24. Both bands were top local bands about 20 years ago and both have some country twang.

If I were a betting man I'd bet this is already a double bill of Hank McCoy and Beetkeepers; we just don't know it yet.
