Jon Fintel; owner, engineer, and producer for the recently opened Relay Recording studio, is hosting a meet and greet-style music showcase at the popular Skully's Music Diner on Saturday, August 2nd. The evening's events include performances by seven local favorites including Flotation Walls, '84 Nash, Templeton, Kopaz, Tiara, The Last Hotel, and Chris Burney (from The Sun). Along with enjoying one of the summer's best local bills, attendees will receive a free copy of the compilation CD entitled Documenting the Sound of Relay Recording(s). The CD features thirteen bands, thirteen songs (all recorded with the highest of fidelity), and will be released on the We Want Action label. Doors are at 8pm (show starts at 9pm). Admission is only $5. Try beating that with a pixy stick.

ABOUT RELAY RECORDING

Jon Fintel, former engineer for the premier John Schwab Studio and graduate of Full Sail Recording School, has recently moved on up to the East side into a deluxe 'err studio on the edge of Bexley. The space boasts both modern and retro toys provided in a comfortable working environment. With a decade of experience under his belt, Fintel is arguably one of the best producer/engineers in the area. He has produced high quality recordings for local and national artists on independent and major labels. He also happens to be a nice fellow.

ABOUT WE WANT ACTION

We Want Action is Columbus' newest independent record label. Co-operated by Mike Finch, Jon Fintel, and Sean Gardner, the WWA is thinking globally while having already acted locally with Denovo's recent self-titled 7"/CD EP release. Working in conjunction with Relay Recording, the label plans on using the current compilation to showcase their capabilities to distributors throughout the U.S. and abroad. We Want Action is currently preparing a full slate of releases for the fall & winter, let this wet your appetite.

ABOUT THE BANDS (in order of appearance on the compilation)

1. Denovo "Words for Potentially Millions"
Denovo recently released their first EP on the We Want Action label. This indie post punk group is known for their tight, erratic stage shows and their ability to come unglued at dynamic peaks. A fall tour of the East Coast and a slot at Seattle's prestigious Bumbershoot Festival are on tap.

2. Flotation Walls "Worms"
Flotation Walls have a new release planned for this fall. The August 2nd show will be their first show in over a year and will showcase a new all-star lineup, including members of The Sun, Frostiva, and Go Evol Shiki!, as well as a new creative direction and sound. Expect damage.

3. Tiara "Drawings"
Also on the comeback trail, Tiara is one of the only bands in Columbus that can truly boast "big in Japan" due to their label, Noon Records, who distributes their introspective and melodic "The Summer of the Lion, The Summer of the Lamb" album. They have one of the best track records of any band in town and have been known to out-class most others bearing the emo tag.

4. Kopaz "Friend of Gwen"
Kopaz is a group that has musical ability as well as vocal prowess. Their combined strengths result in groundbreaking energy and musical fortitude. The forthcoming "Future Radiant Shine" album is already twisting the ears of record executives.

5. The Sun "Long Day"
The Sun are being hailed as Columbus' newest hope. With their "Love and Death" EP in stores on Warner Brothers Records, they're working hard this summer to deliver their first full-length along with a UK single featuring this song as a B-side just in time for their upcoming Redding Music Festival performance. Demos are currently being cut at the aforementioned Relay Recording.

6. The Frequent Desk "Daylight Ghosts"
The Frequent Desk is Jon Fintel's own studio project featuring Nate Keister (Kopaz) on drums. "Daylight Ghosts" should serve as an excellent teaser as they are also planning for a fall release. Math equations abound.

7. Templeton "Rollercoaster Ride"
The darlings of Derailleur Records are back with a taste of their forthcoming "It's a Beautiful Lie" full-length. The band has grown tenfold since frontman Christian Hurd's days with local fav's Howlin' Maggie. With a full-length, an EP, and a scrapped second LP under their belts, this time around Templeton is definitely delivering the goods. Expect more noise, more pop, and rumors of major label courtings. They're true.

8. Dave Powers "Evidence"
One of Columbus' top all-around musicians, Dave Powers is one of the few out there who is making a living doing what he does best, playing music. This six night a week jazz veteran plans on releasing a Christmas album this year, and you just know it will be good.

9. Silencio "7even"
This schizoid outfit is making quite a wake in the experimental music world. You'd never know it through listening, but these guys are young (real young), and they're already showing creative musical muscle. A must see live.

10. Frostiva "Paramount Imposter"
An underground favorite, these fine young ladies spend their time in the rock kitchen cooking up what could be described as a unique recipe of electroriot with a side dish of discopunk. Their album "Ochnomos" has been delayed to a fall release, but will be well worth the wait.

11. Miranda Sound "Anchor Cast Anchor"
This song originally appeared on the album "Baby Inertia". It has had the recent Relay Recording makeover. And anyone who has seen this band in the last year or two has watched them grow from good to one of the best bands in this fair city. These guys truly have musical integrity. And when they break, those who know them will say that it couldn't have happened to a nicer bunch of guys.

12. The Last Hotel "Forgetting"
Frontman Ryan Horns possesses a true singer's voice. He croons over a perfect blend of vintage twang and modern mosaic. Their six song EP, out this coming month, is sure to put a spell on you in a way that only love and murder can. Come early and judge for yourself.

13. "84 Nash "Ride on for Rock' n' Roll"
'84 Nash spent their Rock 101 days under the wings of Dayton heroes Guided by Voices. Their third full length, "A Secret Reward", is only but a new beginning for this band who has carved quite a niche' in the region. They can boast one of the most loyal followings of any Columbus band since the days of The Royal Crescent Mob. And they will not disappoint.
