Intro | v1.0 | v2.0

This is the place to come for press releases, photos, band one sheets, contact information and/or other material common to standard press kits. We hope this "online press kit" approach will prove useful to not only the press, but also the bands, labels and fans. v1.0 CD now available in the Store!

UPDATED November 8, 2001: The Altered Statesman had to drop off the bill due to an induced birth on Friday. Blitz's 2001 Local Stuff Rumble winners, Test Planet, quickly stepped up to fill in.

CRINGE.COM hosts a weekend at Bernie's supporting the v2.0 CD on Friday, November 9 and Saturday, November 10 at Bernie's/The Distillery. These are the last shows in support of volume 2 until its Spring 2002 release date:

Test Planet
The Stepford Five

Saturday, November 10, 2001
at Bernie's/The Distillery
Go Evol Shiki!
Ruby Vileos (from Cincinnati)
Soda Vs Pop

Di Di Mao (Columbus)
These 3 ladies and 1 boy can rawk and make pretty noise, sometimes simultaneously. I'm sure there's some credit due to Jane's Addiction and grrl art rawk in general.

Test Planet (Columbus)
Test Planet kinda fits into that indie art pop space occupied by the likes of th Smashing Pumpkins, Jane's Addiction, John Lennon, XTC, the Cure and Radiohead. Plus they just won this year's th Blitz Local Stuff Rumble (!

The Stepford Five (Columbus)
Their recent release reveals an edgier, moodier side with their Afghan Whigs roots showing. Wait! Shhh. Anyone else hear the Church's "Under the Milky Way?" as sung by J. Mascis?

Go Evol Shiki! (Columbus)
I don't know if they're more Portished, Jesus and the Mary Chain, 4AD or rock guys with a few keyboards, but they've evolved yet again into something energetic yet moody. Electronic, yet human. Thoughtful, yet danceable. Dark, yet fun.

Ruby Vileos (Cincinnati)
Admittedly, I'm totally enamoured and intrigued by singer Ali Edwards' voice - easily my favorite Ohio vocalist. With members of the Ass Ponys and Snaggletooth, their open, spacious, if not slightly slanted, pop makes it easy to imagine Bjork or the Sugarcubes being from the sliver by the river rather than the great land of ice.

Soda vs. Pop (Columbus)
Think indie boy rock in the realm of Tiara, Modest Mouse, Built to Spill and maybe even a bit of the Smiths.

Each compilation in this series aims to expose local and regional bands and fans to each other. The v2.0 CD has a tentative release date of Spring 2002. It is currently available at, Used Kid's Records, Magnolia Thunderpussy and through the bands on volume 1.

We here at lovingly, but with tongue firmly in cheek, refer to "cringe" as the ever elusive Columbus sound (Seattle already took "grunge"), going so far as to adopt "The Columbus Sound" as a slogan on volume 1 and the entire site. Any interpretation of this slogan should be taken with a grain of salt and a couple aspirin.
